A Story Map about Story Maps
We all do like very much to read, hear, listen and recite stories. It is our childhood love and we always make efforts to pass it to our next generation. The location is an important and indispensable part of every story. The story starts with a location, it revolves around a location and ends at a location.
Stories are a very important aspect of our society, and storytelling is the one of the things which make us uniquely human - Allen Carroll, Esri
Here comes the concept of Story Maps, coined by Esri Inc, that is "Everyone has a story to tell. Harness the power of maps to tell yours."
The concept is supported by ArcGIS Online (AGOL) and it is best suited for non-GIS users and non-Programmers specially.
In March 2013, while working with Esri India and googling for something, I came to know about the Story Maps. I just loved the concept because of its easiness, simplicity & completeness and tried it (because of step-by-step guide is available) instantly. The outcome was the "National Parks of India". Had sent it to Esri Inc, the team there liked it. Rupert suggested a few changes, out of my enthusiasm which i corrected immediately.
Later on Esri Inc published a poster on Story Maps types & usages and as an example, my first story map got a place in it. The journey had begun. Now the Story Map becomes a habit. As my thinking and looking at the things, places started revolving around it. I started searching something in every where, so that I can configure a Story Map. It remained on top of my mind.
Since 2013, have configured 35 Story Maps. The collection is available here. The subjects of Story Maps varies from places, persons, events, geography, photography etc.
I configured Story Map Journal template to showcase all the Story Maps, so it becomes "A Story Map about Story Maps". I am dedicating this Story Map to Rupert from Esri's Story Map team, who was in constant touch with me for enhancing Story Maps I configured initially. Many of my story maps were part of the Esri's Story Map Gallery, the credit goes to him. #RIP #Rupert.
